Some of the basic usage for computers [There are a lot more areas in which computers are used, this list is just to enable you to factor the right computer based on your requirements]:
You are going to use it for checking emails, browsing the internet, chatting, online-dating, etc.
You are going to use it for running software for your office or business and will be using it for applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project, Outlook, Lotus Notes, etc.
You are going to use it for playing games.
You are buying a Computer for developing software applications.
If you are buying a Computer for the first two reasons and it is your first Computer then its best that you buy the “Standard Specification” that is available in the market in your country.
Standard specification is the 'in' thing in the market, the market is going to be flooded with these computers, hence the cost of this specification will be low. But if you want to buy a good computer that you can use for home, work and play then it would be worth while to understand what goes into defining a Computer Specification.
Next thing for deciding your Best Buy Computer is - How much is your Budget? Budget is the next deciding factor as to how good each of the components will be on your Computer.
Let’s dive in and see how you can define the Computer Specification that’s best for you and balance it with the budget you have.
Lets understand some basics about Computers, any computer you buy will have the following components:
Central Processing Unit (CPU)

GPRS
GPRS protocol is a packet-switch protocol; define for web applications in GSM network. In other words Internet on GSM network is standardized as GPRS network. GPRS has digital structure and this structure based on Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technique. One TDMA frame has 8 time slots (TSs). These TSs can be allocated to users, and single TS can be shared by several active users for uplink and downlink purposes. Different coding schemes are used to enhance data rate from 9Kbps to 150 Kbps per user, and it takes 0.5 to 1 second. Security features in GPRS is provided by GSM network.
GPRS Architecture
Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) circuit-switch architecture does not support the GPRS packet-switch architecture. Thus, GPRS requires its own network architecture. Several networks and databases e.g. Mobile Station (MS), Base Station Subsystem (BSS), Home Location Register (HLR), Visitor Location Register (VLR) in existing GSM network are modified in GPRS network.
GPRS architecture introduces the following network nodes to GSM architecture.
Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN)
Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN)
Mobile Station (MS)
Base Station System (BSS)
Home Location Register (HLR)
Visitor Location Register (VLR)
1.Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN): In GPRS network SGSN is equivalent to MSC. Packets of data between MSC and Public Switch Data Network (PSDN) are transferred and received by SGSN.
2.Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN): GSM databases e.g. HLR and VLR are supported by GGSN. It also interacts with external packet-switch networks.
3.Mobile Station (MS): In GPRS network MS consists of Mobile Terminal (MT) and Terminal Equipment (TE). A computer attached to MT is called a ME. Through air, MT communicates with the BSS.
4.Base Station System (BSS): In BSS, Base Transceiver Station (BTS) and Base Station Controller (BSC) are modified to support GPRS channel coding schemes BTS is modified while to forward calls to Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) and data to SGSN through Packet Control Unit (PCU), is supported by BSC. One SGSN is served by one BSC.
5.Home Location Register (HLR): In GPRS, HLR contains information about routing. To map an MS to one or more GGSNs, update the SGSN and to store the Internet Protocol (IP) address, this information is accessed by both SGSN and GGSN.
6.Visitor Location Register (VLR): In GPRS. VLR contains the SGSN number and this number indicates the MS currently served by the SGSN.
GPRS Interfaces
Different interfaces are used for routing between network nodes in GPRS.
Um interface provides communication between MS and BSS.
Gb interface provides connection between BSS and SGSN.
Gn interface provides connection between SGSN and GGSN within the same GPRS network.
Gp interface provides connection between SGSN and GGSN when they are in different GPRS network.
Gi interface provides connection between GGSN and external networks.
Gs interface provides communication between MSC and SGSN.
GPRS functional Groups
The functions which are defined in GPRS are following.
Network access function: Point to point data transfer, registration of MS with packet data protocols, radio resources for MS communication and charging information about packet transmission, is provided by this function.
Packet routing and transfer function: Routing of data between an MS and destination, conversion of GPRS address to external address and forwarding of packets between an MS and GGSN, is provided by this function.
Logical link management function: The communication between an MS and the GSM network is maintained by it.
Radio resources management function: Radio communication paths are allocated by it.
Mobility management function: Current location of an MS is kept by it. When an MS is entered to a new area, all routing and location in formations are also updated by it.
Network management function: If provides mechanisms to support network functions related to GPRS.
Advantages
The major advantage of GPRS is that, to access data no dial-up connection is required. It is an inexpensive mobile data service as compared to Short Message Service (SMS) in GSM.

How to quickly repair your Mobile Phone dropped in water?
Many of you get your mobile phone wet by one way or another. You worry as you mistakenly drop your mobile phone in water. It can also get wet if you are out in a heavy rain. However, there is no need to panic. It is possible to save your wet mobile phone by quickly repairing it. In order to save your mobile phone from water damage, you can consider these easy and simple solutions:
Act rapidly :
The first thing you have to do in order to save your wet mobile phone is to act rapidly. Quickly remove all the detachable parts as well as covers possible such as the back cover, battery, the SIM card, memory card etc. Next, take a piece of cloth or a tissue paper to wipe the excess water you are able to notice within the mobile phone. Make sure that you dry it completely. If you don' t do this, the water inside the mobile phone will begin to evaporate and gather in places which will be difficult to reach
This will save your wet mobile phone and it will start working if it was under water for just a little while.
Using a hairdryer :
Take a hairdryer and begin drying the mobile phone while giving more consideration to the place where the battery is located. The battery housing usually consists of tiny holes to let in air (so giving more space for water) inside the mobile phone.
Make sure that you are not holding the hairdryer very near to the mobile phone. Keeping it too close to the mobile phone may harm the electrical mechanism of the mobile phone. Keep on drying the mobile phone from a safe distance for about twenty to thirty minutes.
If solution number 1 and solution number 2 don't work, try solution number 3.
Drying for a long time:
Take off the covers as well as battery from the mobile phone. Put the phone in a dry as well as warm place to let the water inside the phone evaporate gradually from the little holes in the mobile phone.

New version of Google Apps Migration for Lotus Notes tool available for download
Posted: 2010-07-14 02:52:36 UTC-07:00
Version 2.2.1 of the Google Apps Migration for Lotus Notes tool is now available for download with the following new features:
Pre-migration Estimator: It is now possible to gather user statistics prior to migration for selected users. This feature is designed to help customers plan the migration process for each site as they can now see precisely how many emails, calendar entries and contacts/groups will be migrated for each user. These values are aggregated up to show totals by user status, by site and across the entire organisation. The system also calculates the amount of data that will be migrated for each user and totals up accordingly.
Error Threshold Setting: In earlier versions of this tool, if any migration errors were encountered the system would keep the user at Active status until the error was resolved, manually flagged as complete, or the administrator moved the user to "Complete" status. It now allows the administrator to set a site level threshold for errors. If the total number of migration errors in a single user's mail file is below this threshold, the system will allow the user to move to "Complete". Where notifications are enabled, the user will receive a completion notice which will include details of any errors so that they can deal with these as required.

Languages included:

How to access what's new:
Admins can now add additional domains in the Control Panel under ‘Domain Settings’ by adding the domain name in the text box. For these domains, admins will still have to verify domain ownership just like the primary domain.
To add another domain:
1. In the Google Apps Control Panel, click ‘Domain settings’, then ‘Domain names’.
2. Click ‘Add a domain or a domain alias’.
3. Enter the domain name that you want to add in the text box.
4. If you just want to add the domain as a domain alias, enable the checkbox ‘Make this domain an alias of my primary domain’.
5. Click ‘Continue and verify domain ownership’ to verify ownership of the domain
6. Follow the instructions to verify domain ownership and set up email delivery.
- After adding a domain, when admins now create a new user, they will have the choice to create the user with username@domainA.com or username@domainB.com.
- This feature is only available to domains using the ‘Next Generation’ version of the Control Panel. To enable this version in the control panel, click ‘Domain settings’ > ’General’ and ensure the checkbox ‘Next generation (US English only)’ is enabled.
- These changes are gradually rolling out and will happen in the next few days.

Google Apps updates: greatest hits from the last 6 months
Posted: 2010-06-21 05:57:54 UTC-07:00
In the past six months, over 50 new features have been rolled out to Google Apps. Here are the ones customers have found most useful:
Upload any file to Google Docs
Google Apps users can easily upload and securely share any type of file internally and externally using Google Docs. You get 1 GB of storage per user, and you can upload files up to 250 MB in size. Now accessing your work files doesn't require a connection to your internal office network. Nor do you need to email files to yourself, carry around a thumbdrive, or use a company network drive – you can access your files using Google Docs from any web-enabled computer.
Enterprise mobile device management features
Google Apps administrators can use new mobile device management capabilities for iPhone, Nokia, and Windows Mobile devices to remotely wipe data from lost devices, lock idle devices after a period of inactivity, require device passwords of variable complexity, and more.
The Google Apps Marketplace
The Google Apps Marketplace allows administrators to discover and purchase integrated third party cloud applications and deploy them to their domains. Applications listed in the Google Apps Marketplace integrate with Google Apps using open protocols. Once added, they then can be easily managed from your domain's control panel and accessed by users through the same links as the Google Apps suite.
Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Exchange Tool
The new Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Exchange tool simplifies migration of email, calendar and contacts from both hosted and on-premise Microsoft Exchange to Google Apps. With this tool, admins can do multiple migrations in parallel, centrally manage migration without end user involvement, and migrate email, calendar or contacts from Microsoft Exchange 2003 or 2007.
Two-way calendar sync in Google Apps Connector for BlackBerry Enterprise Server
Google Apps Connector for BlackBerry Enterprise Server now allows two-way calendar sync. Users can accept/decline meetings, schedule new meetings, move meeting times and add/remove meeting attendees in Google Calendar from their Blackberry devices.

New sharing settings in Google Docs
Posted: 2010-06-18 03:57:42 UTC-07:00
We’ve improved the way sharing works in Google Docs to make sharing easier and more intuitive while giving you even more control.
Private: Private docs are accessible only to people or groups you’ve explicitly invited to the file. Anyone trying to access the file will have to sign in to verify that they have access to the file.
People at your organization with the link: Docs set to this option are accessible to anyone inside the domain who knows the URL of the file. If you also select the ‘Allow anyone to edit’ option, anyone with the URL will be able to view and edit your file. This option allows you to easily copy and paste the file’s link into chat, email and calendar invites.
People at your organization can find and access: Docs set to this option will be indexed by Google Docs search and may be opened by anyone in your organization.
If your Google Apps administrator allows sharing outside of your organization, you will also be able to make a file Public on the web or available to Anyone with the link (no sign in required). Administrators can also control the default visibility setting from the control panel.
Editions included:
Standard, Premier, Education, Team and Partner Editions
Languages included:
All languages supported by Google Docs
How to access what's new:
- To see the new options, click the ‘Share’ button when editing a document.
- You can easily see the full list of editors and viewers by clicking on the visibility option/icon next to the document title or clicking on the ‘Share’ button.
- From the Docs list, you can now modify the sharing settings of multiple documents at a time. Select the documents that you want to modify and click the ‘Share’ button.
Note: The existing default sharing settings that administrators have chosen have not changed. These features are being rolled out over the coming week.
